Father
Damiano Phan Chau Dai was born on January 04, 1927 in Gia Huu
(Qui Nhon province). His parents, Mr. Phan Cu and Mrs. Le Thi
Luoc, had 10 children and raised them all in a very solid
Catholic tradition.
Fr. Damiano Dai left home when he was 12 years old to join
the Congregation of St. Joseph. At that time it was common for
boys to enter the minor seminary at such an early age. He
professed his first vows in 1946 and his final vows in 1955.
Soon after taking his first vows, he was sent to help in the
parishes in different places in the diocese of Qui Nhon. He
began his preparation for final vows in 1954 and professed
perpetual vows on July 16, 1955. From 1958 to 1962 he went to
study at the University in Sai Gon. After his studies, he became
the Director of the Aspirancy program of the Congregation of St.
Joseph and later became principal of the Kim Chau high school.
Sent to Rome in 1972 for higher studies, he was called back
in 1973 to become Vice Superior General of the Congregation of
St. Joseph. He held this office for three terms and was also
ordained to the priesthood in 1992. He continued to serve as
vice superior general and then as treasurer of the Congregation
until 1994, when he was appointed superior of the community in
Kim Chau, Qui Nhon. He was superior there until 2002, when he
retired to Nha Trang.
Fr. Damiano was considered by the confreres a humble but firm
person, strict but just. He had contributed much to the
education of youth and the development of the Congregation. He
had suffered from heart trouble for the last 9 years, but he
managed to cope with community life and trusted in God’s
providence. On November 27, 2011 he felt that his heartbeat was
slowing down. He asked to be anointed and received the Sacrament
of the Anointing of the Sick in the presence of many confreres
of the main community in Nha Trang. The next day he was rushed
to the hospital and his heart stopped completely at 1:45 in the
early morning of November 29, 2011. Fr. Damiano was 84 years
old. He had been a religious for 65 years and a priest for 19
years.
He has completed his earthly journey and has begun his
journey to the Father’s home. May our Heavenly Father receive
him into the Kingdom for which he had worked throughout his life
and in which he strongly desired to live forever.

Father
Raymond Quetchenbach, SVD, our beloved confrere and friend to
many, entered eternity on Saturday morning, November 19, 2011,
at 7:45 a.m. He was 82 years old.
Father Ray had surgery this summer and was subsequently
diagnosed with cancer. His condition worsened rapidly in the
past few weeks. Earlier this week he began to receive Hospice
Care at the Techny Residence. Many confreres and several of his
relatives spent time praying with him in his infirmary room in
his final days.
Funeral arrangements are pending.
Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and
let perpetual light shine upon him.
May his soul and the souls of all the
faithful departed through the mercy of God rest in peace. Amen.

Please find the obituary of Fr. Thomas Lynch SVD who passed
away on 7th October 2011.
He breathed his last at 5.10 pm today on 07/10/2011 at
Roberts Nursing Home.
The funeral mass is at 2.30 pm on Sunday 09/10/2011 at
Catholic Ashram Palda, Indore.

Dal
suo ritorno dalla Romania, paese dei suoi ultimi venti anni di
servizio apostolico, P. Alberto Marson non si è più ripreso
totalmente. Il cuore indebolito, il suo incedere debole per la
circolazione specialmente debilitata nelle gambe, una situazione
generale di salute complessa, ha condotto all’arresto cardiaco
domenica 02 ottobre, nonostante fosse ancora poco prima presente
con la sua verve e i suoi ricordi. Non si è più ripreso e nella
serata del 05 ottobre, Dio l’ha preso con se per dargli la
ricompensa dell’impegno profuso come sacerdote missionario.
 Era
nato il 30 marzo 1938, in una famiglia dove si respirava
profonda umanità, senso dell’onestà e solidarietà cristiana,
dove ognuno cresceva in libertà e responsabilità di fronte alla
vita. La famiglia era la roccia su cui poggiare la vita, la
comunità parrocchiale l’orizzonte su cui ogni ragazzo poteva
riferirsi per avere risposte e ambito di sviluppo umano e
religioso. Dapprima chierichetto e poi seminarista, anche se
lontanodagli affetti famigliari, ma con una comunità di giovani
viva e educante come quella di Varone dei Missionari Verbiti,
che sopperiva a tante altre difficoltà, crebbe e si preparò alla
sua futura missione. Continuò i suoi studi a Padova e poi a
Roma, dove, dopo l’emissione dei voti perpetui l’8 settembre
1964, venne pure ordinato sacerdote nel 1967 nel centro verbita
di Nemi. La situazione era in quel momentotragica, perché mentre
il papà era sul letto di morte, P. Alberto coronava il suo sogno
vocazionale, il sacerdozio missionario; però ebbe il tempo di
presentarsi ancora al papà come sacerdote appena ordinato.
Seguirono gli anni di servizio a Varone, come responsabile
nell’economia ma sempre con tanto impegno pastorale. Già da
allora rivelò grande capacità nella predicazione, ove giungeva
ai cuori con la sua incisività della fede attualizzata e senza
fronzoli. Tanti anni che lo resero molto conosciuto nella zona e
anche in molte parrocchie.
Seguirono poi anni di impegno apostolico a Roma, divenendo
oltre che per anni vicerettore del collegio di Roma dei Verbiti,
anche responsabile di tutti i gruppi missionari della città di
Roma. E’ stato un impegno affidatogli dall’allora Cardinale Poma
e poi Ruini, per le sue doti di servizio generoso e tenace, per
la sua essenzialità nella predicazione evangelica, per la sua
capacità attrattiva dei giovani. Un servizio accolto, donato,
apprezzato e che produsse molti frutti. Un vero missionario
errante dell’urbe.
Quindi Dio come sempre apre nuove inaspettate: la Romania.
Dopo la rivoluzione, nel 1991, la chiesa romano-cattolica romena
chiede ai Missionari Verbiti di costruire un centro e di
svolgere un servizio di formazione e di predicazione. P. Alberto
e il suo amico d’infanzia, vengono mandati per questo compito,
iniziando da zero sia nella lingua, nella conoscenza della
cultura, cambiando totalmente vita. Subito la generosità e
l’impegno di apostolico resero P. Alberto ricercato predicatore
di esercizi spirituali, direttore spirituale di tantissime
anime, predicatore negli incontri dei giovani. Era sempre in
viaggio, sempre disponibile, ma specialmente sapeva offrire la
Parola di Dio, perché prima l’aveva pregata e accolta in se. Man
mano che passavano gli anni in Romania, si può affermare, che la
preghiera e la Parola sono divenuti i suoi pilastri di vita, per
questo era invitato anche negli incontri della conferenza
episcopale romena come predicatore.
Accanto a questo servizio instancabile, ne soffriva la salute
e sempre più spesso doveva fare ritorno in Italia per riprendere
forze e specialmente ridare vigore al cuore sempre più debole e
in difficoltà. Gli ultimi due anni sono stati molto difficili e
impegnativi dal lato della salute, gli impegni dovevano essere
ridotti e P. Alberto ne soffriva molto. Voleva essere sempre
disponibile al suo si a Dio e all’uomo, ad ogni richiesta, ma
spesso non poteva. Rimaneva sempre però punto di riferimento per
la direzione spirituale e le confessioni per molte persone
consacrate e sacerdoti. Quattro mesi fa’ avvenne il declino che
lo portò a ritornare in Italia per essere ricoverato e tentare
di recuperare le forze, sempre con tanta nostalgia della
Romania. Purtroppo, nonostante un breve recupero, la situazione
è peggiorata improvvisamente.
Sia in Romania che in Italia tutti lo ricordano con tanta
simpatia. Con tanta venerazione per il suo impegno apostolico e
missionario, con ammirazione per la sua spiritualità offerta e
donata attraverso la predicazione e specialmente l’esempio della
preghiera. “Vieni servo fedele, entra nella gioia del tuo
Signore”, sembra essere la frase della liturgia che lo
accompagna in questo momento dell’incontro con il Padre.

ROBERT MYERS
who
died Sunday, August 28, 2011. He had been in failing health for
some time and was hospitalized briefly several weeks ago. He
returned to Techny where his health continued to decline and he
died this morning.
He was born in 1917, professed vows in 1943 and was ordained
in 1949.
He was instrumental in developing the Chicago Province
Archives which were named in his honor.
Arrangements are pending.

Our
great buddy Frank Kamp walked into heaven at 12.45 am on
Saturday, August 27, 2011. In his life and death he has shown to
us what it is to live fully and to seek God as the highest good.
He is indeed a GREAT STORY told by God. He has left behind a
memory no one can steal, a treasure to all who experienced his
love. May his soul rest in peace.

Fr.
Gregorio Fabia SVD, PhD, former USC Vice President for Academic
Affairs, was undergoing dialysis at the Chinese General Hospital
in Manila when he suffered a cardiac arrest. He was 67 years
old.
 His
body lies in state at Villa Cristo Rey, Divine Word Mission
Seminary, E. Rodriguez Sr. Avenue, Quezon City. The Mass of the
Resurrection will be held on Saturday, 13 August, at three
o’clock in the afternoon. Interment follows immediately.
Fr. Fabia was born in Jaro, Iloilo. He was ordained to the
priesthood together with several other SVD deacons by Pope Paul
VI at the Luneta in 1970. Fr. Fabia earned a doctoral degree in
Educational Administration from the University of the
Philippines Diliman in 1984.

RAYMOND J. GUIDRY, SVD
who died this morning, Thursday, June 16,
2011. He was hospitalized last week and decided not to continue
kidney dialysis.
He was born in 1928, professed vows in 1949 and was ordained
in 1957.
Ray came to Techny in September 2005 shortly after Hurricane
Katrina devastated Bay St. Louis. He was born in Louisiana,
ministered in parishes throughout the Southern Province (USS),
and served as an Army chaplain from 1968 to 1988.

is with sadness that I inform you that our confrere Bill Liebert
was called home to heaven very quietly and very peacefully about
5:30 this morning.
A Memorial Mass will be held here at Techny in the Residence
Chapel before Bill's remains are transported to Papua New Guinea
and, as per his wishes, he will be laid to rest at the Sacred
Heart Monastery in Wewak. Memorial Mass information will be
forthcoming.
Please join me in praying for the repose of Bill's soul.

hoje dia 25 de março de 2011 o Pe. Fabiano. Nascido dia 7 de
janeiro de 1923 em Curitiba. Foi ordenado sacerdote no ano de
1948 na Congregação do Verbo Divino. Até então foi responsável
pelas Pontifícias Obras Missionárias na Diocese de São José dos
Pinhais-PR. A Missa de corpo presente do Pe. Fabiano será no dia
26 de março de 2011 às 09h30min na Catedral São José, em São
José dos Pinhais, celebrada por Dom Ladislau Biernaski. Logo
após a Missa vai ser enterrado no Cemitério Municipal em São
José dos Pinhais.
